WISCA Leadership Series

Employee engagement and innovation are crucial, especially in today's workplace.  This leadership development series was created to teach leaders how to build trust and to inspire and motivate employees for success.  The Series builds on evidence from leadership and management studies and on the presenter's experiences as a leader, executive coach and consultant  to enable the participants to develop the skills needed to foster engagement and innovation in their teams and organizations.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the principles of leadership presence, followership, coaching others, systems thinking and managing change.
  • Develop leadership skills and behaviors that help strengthen employee engagement and activate creativity and innovation in teams.

Courses

Courses are offered throughout the year.  Participants can register for each separately, or the entire series.  Participants will receive a certificate for completing each course, and additional recognition once completing the entire series.

Winter Workshop
Applying Coaching Skills for More Effective Conversations

4 hours (in-person)

There are four coaching skills that, when applied to most conversations leaders have, will make the discussion and outcomes better. This workshop provides an overview and practice of those coaching skills and helps participants better understand the difference between coaching, mentoring, training, and giving feedback.

Spring Webinar

Leadership Presence and Principles

90 minutes (virtual)

How leaders show up makes or breaks their effectiveness and brand. In this virtual workshop, we will discuss key concepts that impact presence and how to better align actions with intentions.

Summer Webinar
Systems-Thinking Concepts for Surgery Center Leadership

90 minutes (virtual)

Thinking outside of one’s own area or function can be a challenge, especially during busy and chaotic times. This virtual workshop will help participants identify opportunities they have to be better systems thinkers and realize the benefits of doing so.

Fall Workshop
Leading Self and Others Through Change and Transition

4 hours (in-person)

Change is the external event that happens. Transition is the psychological process we need to go through to embrace and accept the change. This workshop will cover the difference between the two and help leaders understand where people are in their transition journey and what support and assistance they can offer to them.

Course Schedule

The course schedule includes an initial in-person workshop, followed by 2 webinars and concludes with a final in-person workshop.  The final schedule and location of workshops will be determined after the annual leadership series cohort is selected.

Sign-up

The series is limited to 10-15 participants per year.  Interested applicants are asked to complete the interest form below to receive an application.  Full applications will be due by November 15, with participants selected in early December.

About the Presenters

WISCA has partnered with the LAK Group to develop the Leadership Series.  LAK leaders has partnered with WISCA and ASCs around the state to develop leaders.  They are a trusted partner and expert guide who takes their clients on a journey of personal and organizational discovery to help each individual become a more successful and fulfilled leader.  Courses will be led by Shelley Smith and Jennifer DeLaura.

Shelley is the Managing Director of Leadership Practice at LAK an Executive Coach.  Shelley joined LAK in 2019 with more than 20 years of experience in leadership, consulting with executives, and coaching and organizational development.  She is a credentialed executive coach.  Shelley's areas of expertise include executive coaching, physician leadership coaching, leadership/talent development, change and succession management, and performance consulting.  Prior to joining LAK Group, Shelley was the Senior Director of Leadership Development with Aurora Health Care and spent 16 years in the financial services industry in various roles that included a position as branch manager and leading the training and development function.

Andy is the Managing Director of Leadership Practice at LAK Group and an Executive Coach.  Andy joined LAK Group in 2021 with more than 15 years of experience in healthcare leadership, consulting with executive team, leading large organizational transformations and coaching leaders.  He is a credentialed executive coach, board-certified in healthcare administration, and an expert in Lean management systems.  Andy's areas of expertise include executive coaching, leadership development, change management, career planning, operational excellence and business transformation.  Prior to joining LAK Group, Andy was the Vice President of Process Excellence at Ascension Wisconsin and spent more than 20 years in the healthcare in various roles that included laboratory sciences and process improvement.  Now, as an executive coach and leadership consultant, Andy helps leaders realize that what they do is not as important as who they are as they do it and create the inner freedom to realize the impact they can have on people and the business results they can achieve. 

Course Fees

Participants can sign-up for separate sessions, or for the full series.  Member centers can register participants at a discounted members-only rate.  Each participant from a member ASC receives the member discount.
